THE BED:

Your bed should always be the first thing you see when you walk into your room. The basic formula for styling your bedding: 2 euro pillows, 2 standard pillows, 1-3 accent cushions, and on top of that add a cozy throw or more decorative cushions, if your heart desires. I encourage you to acknowledge all of the ways that throw cushions help our spaces thrive. From achieving a sense of balance to creating cozy nooks for napping, decorating with throw pillows is an integral part of home design.

THE BEDSIDE TABLES:

The bedside tables are perfect for pulling your bedroom look together. A well-styled bedside table not only helps create a balanced space that reflects your personality and design aesthetic, but its contents should be practical and useful, as well. When styling your bedside table, look to tall vases and table lamps for height, medium sized candles, opt for a scent that suits the mood you want to convey. When arranging your decorative pieces together, make sure you have placed the taller items at the back and add the next level pieces in front to create a more cohesive look.

THE WALLS:

Even when all the furniture is in place and every surface is styled, a room can still look visually empty. Spruce up your walls with some beautiful art/prints.

THE EXTRAS:

A room wouldn’t be complete without a few personal touches. A pretty sitting chair to fill some wall space or a bench at the end of the bed. We all have a few extras that can contribute to our room in style and sentiment.

Out of all the spaces in our home, the master bedroom is definitely my favourite to style. I feel the happiest/most at home with this one. I’ve learnt to style for myself, and don’t think you have to stick to just one style of decorating. How uninspiring would it be if we all had the same tastes and ideas and decorated the same way? To me, that’s what makes it fun—watching how others design a space and adjust it to suit their own needs to create something special just for them. I respect anyone who can do that.
